Relay Modification

I installed the system checked it worked then added a second 50w solar panel for the pump and other systems we may want to add. The pump signal now runs a relay switching the pump on/off driven off a 12v leisure battery. I have also installed a 12vdc control panel so the pump can be isolated if necessary. We have 2 X 1000 Lt IBC's next to the polytunnel and our setup seems to be working great. I now have to work on the WiFi signal. Pic shows the Solar controller, 22 vdc panel and Harvst control unit all in the polytunnel

Hi Sued,
I like your modification, I’m currently running the Watermate pro ( Solar Pump ) in a polytunnel with 2 zones and could really do with a third zone, but know my system won’t cope with it on these extremely hot days, what size leisure battery did you go for with your mod?
Regards Paul

Hi Paul, we went with a 95Ah leasure battery, in this weather we are watering 30 sec every hour and the battery is barely noticing it.

Hi Sued - this looks like a great setup!
do you by chance have a wiring diagram which shows how you managed it?

Hi wstevie,
Had problems on hot days in my polytunnel last year when needing extra watering, copied Sued's idea, can't find my wiring diagram, but have uploaded image of how I think I done it,
worked brilliantly, even have a usb outlet for phone & radio.

Hopes this helps Paul

Hi,I really like the lager battery, relay ideas but I can’t see enough detail in the photos , could someone please post a link that explains the basics of using a bigger battery and panel installation.
It seems crazy that Harvst haven’t come up with a larger capacity system.
I’m having the same problems of not enough battery power from the solar system. The battery basically isn’t big enough nor the solar panel enough to charge it after watering, especially on a full day, I’m just about to install a second panel but I’m sure it won’t be enough.

Hi George,

Have a look at links, one for Relay link

and other for solar panel
link,

you will also need to purchase a 12 Volt Leisure Battery link

As my battery is in my poly tunnel I also purchase a battery box from ASAP Supplies.

Hope this helps.

Regards Paul
