Has anyone got a system that uses one or more of the Aux outputs to implement extra watering zones? I think that is the route I need to go down and wondered if others would share their experiences.
Sorry for the delay replying here. We now have extra zone controllers which are ready for field testing. They are compatible with most existing control units ... we may be able to modify yours if it needs it.
Let me know if you are interested in giving one a go ( or anyone else reading this with a Watermate! )
Hi Killer, there are two ways to achieve extra zones:
- Add an extra pump ( without valves ) to an Aux port. Set the Aux port so that it just turns on power 12v. This becomes a completely separate irrigation loop from zones 1 and 2.
- One or more smart valves to the small 3-pin sensor port, in the same line as the temperature sensor. Set the Aux port so that it turns on power to the pump port and a signal to the smart valve ( which will be seen in Settings > Wired devices once it's connected ). The second route lets you use the same pump as zones 1 and 2.
Smart valves are currently a prototype with a 3D printed case rather than a production case. We can send one at early adopter price £25 inc shipping if you'd like to try it?
Hi Killer, if you use mains water, it's just a regular valve connected to the aux port ( with an adapter cable ) ... that's quick and simple. This is what you need, and we'll include the adapater: link
Sorry to jump on this thread, but I'd definitely like to try the prototype smart valves if possible? Currently have the stock two zones, but find myself in need of four zones.
